BorzoGallery proudly presents Grey Earth, the new solo project by Charlotte Caspers in which each work zooms in and out in its own way on the surrounding natural world and the landscape that a painting carries in itself.

Charlotte Caspers, art historian, restorer and above all painter, unites these three disciplines in her paintings.

Nothing in her art is accidental, everything is reasoned and justified: panels of oak or linden wood, sawn and planed with the utmost care, are coated with a chalk ground and carefully selected earth pigments built up layer by layer, sometimes also provided with a layer of polished gold leaf and processed with punch and drill.

Exploring earthly elements and minerals like an alchemist, as an artist she succeeds in letting her paintings rise above the material. Gray pigments from the earth and gold as the metaphysical, the supernatural light. Sometimes it is the memory of a landscape, never its literal imagination; landscape minimalism with science-based craftsmanship.
