When the Lights Go Out
On 16 December at 18:00 fourteen Amsterdam galleries will turn off the lights in the gallery and turn on projections/light installations. BorzoGallery will show two neon sculptures by Jan Henderikse (*1937).
Jan Henderikse is one of four members from the original Nul-group. In his work he uses industrial products and discarded materials to create serial compositions that reflect reality without any personal stamp or individuality. His art emphasizes impersonality, comparable to the production process in factories. One of his original sculptures is titled Nul, the other ZERO, both a neon tube sculpture in white. To realize this sculpture, Henderikse wrote the words 'Nul' and 'ZERO' several times on a sheet of paper. A glassblower and neon technician then transformed his design into a sculpture.
Both works are the last available examples from an edition of 6 produced in 2014.
From 16 - 23 December the works will be lit after gallery opening hours, from 18:00 onwards. From 23 December, 2023 - 6 January, 2024 all art works can be seen 24/7. The participating galleries can be found on the map below.
