Art Rotterdam 2024 | Wieteke Heldens: Stand 16

Overview
The 'Still Counting' series represents a newfound sense of freedom that has taken Heldens' art to a new level.

BorzoGallery is excited to present new artwork by Dutch artist Wieteke Heldens (Ottersum, NL, 1982). Her latest series, called Still Counting, is a continuation of her previous series called Legends. In this new body of work, Heldens reflects the positive changes in her personal life through the use of vibrant colors, particularly the healing color green.

Heldens' artwork is inspired by the work of other artists. The size of her paintings directly references the precise dimensions of paintings by Hilma af Klint. You can also see influences from Willem de Kooning's use of colors, Helen Frankenthaler's physical pouring technique and the way she turns her canvases, and the numbering systems used by On Kawara.

While these references to other artists play a significant role in Heldens' work, this new series represents a newfound sense of freedom that has taken her art to a new level.
